Projects
The MDX Engineering Department strives to deliver safe and efficient mobility solutions to the public and provides vital communication with stakeholders and neighbors through the duration of a project. The department is divided into four functional sections: Planning, Design, Construction and Operations/Maintenance. The department generates the two guiding documents for the agency, the Five Year Work Program which sets the framework for all MDX projects including costs, priorities, phases and the MDX Master Transportation Plan which provides the basis and guidance for future investments.
The department's primary responsibility in addition to managing the Work Program is to ensure that MDX's five roadways are safe for the traveling public. In order to meet this demand MDX provides 24/7 oversight, management and direction to its asset maintenance, Road Rangers, bridge inspections, contractors and coordinates with the MDX Traffic Management Center (TMC) to respond to emergency situations, keep the roadways in safe working order and aesthetically pleasing.
MDX Enhancement Manual
In 2003, MDX approved an enhancement manual to guide all landscape and hardscape, signage and lighting improvements throughout its expressway system. This manual was updated in 2015.
