Future Projects/Studies

(Pending future GMX Governing Board Direction)

GMX SR 836 Southwest Extension / Kendall Parkway

This proposed project would provide a southwest extension of the SR 836/Dolphin Expressway from its current terminus at NW 137th Avenue, in the vicinity of NW 12th Street, to West Kendall Drive and Miami Executive Airport in West Kendall. This new corridor is envisioned as a multi-modal limited access facility and the goal is to design a cross section that relieves traffic congestion within the area and provides a valid mobility option while providing an opportunity to limit urban expansion to the west. This would provide additional north-south connectivity and enhance mobility throughout the area and greater accessibility to major activity and employment centers.

GMX SR 924 East Extension

This proposed project consists of providing a connection from SR 924/Gratigny Parkway to I-95. This extension would provide a more integrated highway system by improving access and mobility to and from major origin and destinations in northern Miami-Dade County including employment centers in the cities of North Miami, Opa-Locka, Hialeah and Miami Lakes.

GMX SR 924 West Extension

This proposed project would extend the SR 924/Gratigny Parkway to the west to connect with the Turnpike. The purpose is to improve access and meet east/west mobility needs for commuters and freight traffic. This extension would alleviate existing and future local traffic congestion by providing improved access to the integrated expressway network of SR 826, I-75, SR 924, and the HEFT.

GMX Connect 4 Express

The proposed Connect 4 Express would provide a north-south linkage between four, existing east-west facilities; SR 836, SR 112, SR 924 and SR 826. It will enhance north-south and east-west mobility, and relieve existing congestion on arterials and major roadways by providing an alternative to divert traffic from over-serviced north-south highways, such as the Turnpike and I-95.

GMX SR 874 Sunset Interchange

The proposed project consists of a new connection or partial interchange at SR 874/Don Shula Expressway and SW 72nd Street/Sunset Drive to offer a more convenient access to the highway system for users in this area.

GMX Master Transportation Plan

The GMX Master Transportation Plan provides the basis and guidance for future investments in order to improve mobility and travel time for residents and visitors. All GMX future projects identified in this plan are incorporated into the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). The GMX Master Transportation Plan is updated every five years along with Miami-Dade County’s LRTP. The last update was recently completed in 2016.

GMX Strategic Master Plan

GMX currently is completing the efforts of updating the GMX Strategic Master Plan (SMP) to provide a new vision and specific goals to direct the future of the agency. The SMP establishes the framework to maintain and enhance the sustainability of GMX as an agency, to broaden its mission, in order to serve the mobility needs of the community, and improving the economic climate of in Miami-Dade County.
